  1. I was reading an article in the Canadian Lutheran from March 10, 2011. It was titled “Seminarians Take Wing Across Western Canada”, in which the article talked about seminarians preparing for being a pastor visited congregations to talks with the congregation about being a pastor and generally getting a feel what is like to be in a parish. They all came back after a weekend or longer and how it had affected them. They all seemed to be excited about their future as a pastor. It seems as the seminary guild helped to sponsor their visits to the different parishes. This program was started in 2000 and it stated so far 48 seminarians have visited 61 parishes with great results. My question is: Have our seminaries ever considered such a program? It would sure build a bond between our seminaries and our parishes!

    • Lorne,
Thank you for your comment. To my knowledge, something like Take Wing has happened here in the past in that students were chosen to go out into the field and make connections with congregations around the Synod. Today, I know that these connections are made through the Adopt-A-Student program through which students receive support from congregations and develop a relationship with those congregations. They may even go out to these congregations to preach and teach. I know that previous efforts were initiated by our Seminary Relations/Development Offices, so I will continue to search for a more thorough answer to your question.
